2016 Timely Warning Archive

In compliance with the Timely Notice provisions of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the Auraria Higher Education Center located in downtown Denver is issuing the following notice of a crime that occurred on the Auraria Campus.

Saturday, February 27, 2016, 5:45 AM
ARSON AT 5TH STREET PARKING GARAGE (WALNUT STREET & 5TH STREET)

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating a series of small arson fires that occurred within the 5th Street Parking Garage on the Auraria Campus early this morning. Multiple pay station machines were damaged in this incident. There are no injuries involved. A map showing the location of the 5th Street Parking Garage can be found here.

SUSPECTS: There are two suspects at large. Both are described as white or Hispanic males in their early 20s with brown hair. They are both approximately 5'10" tall and 150 pounds. The first suspect is wearing a white t-shirt with red and gray writing on it, a gray long-sleeved undershirt, black baseball cap, and jeans. The second suspect is wearing a gray hoodie, black pants, and gray shoes. They were last observed leaving the area at nearly 7:00 a.m.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A KNIFE OUTSIDE OF THE CHERRY CREEK BUILDING (1111 W. COLFAX AVE)

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating an aggravated assault with a knife that occurred outside on the southeast corner of the Cherry Creek building. The victim stated the suspect was armed with a knife and struck him in the head with a backpack. A knife matching the victim's description was located at the scene. SUSPECT: The suspect is described as a white male, between 5'10" and 6' tall, weighing 175-200 pounds, with blonde or gray hair. He is wearing a gray knit cap, green jacket, and is carrying a gray backpack. When the police arrived, the suspect fled northbound on St. Francis Way/11th Street, and is still at large.

SEX OFFENSE (FONDLING) IN CENTRAL CLASSROOM (1055 10th Street)


REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating a fondling incident that occurred in Central Classroom, Room 208. The suspect approached the victim for directions, then fondled the victim. A map showing the location of Central Classroom can be found here.

SUSPECT: The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, between 5’9"–6’ tall, with a goatee. He was wearing a black Nike hoodie with a swoosh, black pants, and red and black shoes. He was seen leaving campus traveling south on Speer Blvd in a small red car.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY IN NORTH CLASSROOM (1200 Larimer Street)

 
REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating a strong-arm robbery that occurred in the North Classroom. The suspect approached a victim for help, gave the victim a card saying he was deaf, and asked for money. The victim got their wallet out and opened it, and the suspect grabbed all of the cash from the wallet and fled on foot. A map showing the location of North Classroom can be found here. While the crime occurred at approximately 2:20PM, it was not reported to police until approximately 3:00 PM.
 
SUSPECT: The suspect is described as an older white male, late 40’s to 50, approximately 200 lbs., with gray hair and a beard. He was wearing a bright yellow shirt, jeans, and a baseball cap. He possibly left the building southbound on the campus. Campus Police are searching the area.
 


Friday, June 17, 2016 – 7:30 - 8:00 AM
STRONG-ARM ROBBERY BEHIND ST. ELIZABETH’S CHURCH (1060 St. Francis Way)

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating a strong-arm robbery of a bicycle that occurred in the alley behind St. Elizabeth’s Church. The victim did not suffer serious injuries. A map showing the location of the St. Elizabeth's church can be found here. While the crime occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m., it was not reported to police until recently.

SUSPECT: The suspect is known to the victim by the name “Jim”, and is described as a white male, with a gray ponytail, black jacket, blue pants, small camouflage backpack, approximately 50 years of age.  The suspect appeared to be homeless. He left the area northbound to Curtis Street, and then eastbound on Curtis.
 


Sunday, June 26, 2016 – 10:28 AM
POSSIBLE ARSON FIRE OUTSIDE OF TIVOLI STUDENT UNION (900 Auraria Parkway)

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating a possible arson fire on the west steps of the Tivoli Student Union. It was reported at 10:28 AM, and extinguished at 10:31 AM. The fire appeared to be made up of paper and a tar substance; it does not appear that any damage occurred due to the fire. A map showing the location of the Tivoli Student Union can be found here.

SUSPECT: At this time, no suspect information is available. ACPD is attempting to identify suspects that may have been in the area.


Sunday, June 26, 2016 – 3:52 PM
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AT COLFAX LIGHT RAIL STATION (10th Street & Colfax)

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating a possible aggravated assault at the Colfax at Auraria light rail station (10th and Colfax). Three suspects allegedly approached the victim at the station, began calling the victim slurs related to sexual orientation, and the victim was punched in the face, suffering a mouth injury. Auraria Campus Police and Denver Police are investigating at this time, and reviewing camera footage in the area. SUSPECT: The suspects are described as three Hispanic males. The first suspect was wearing a black t-shirt, blue jean shorts, with white shoes. The second suspect was also wearing black t-shirt and white jean shorts. The third male was wearing a red t-shirt with blue jean shorts and white socks. All suspects were in their early-to-mid-30s. The suspects were last observed leaving the area on the W/B RTD bus, route #16.


Tuesday, November 22, 2016 – 7:25 P.M.
TWO STRONG-ARM ROBBERIES: NORTH CLASSROOM (LARIMER & SPEER) AND AURARIA LIBRARY (LARIMER & 10TH)
                                            

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are investigating two reported strong-arm robberies that appear to be related. The first victim was sitting outside of North Classroom when approached by a male who demanded money, but the victim refused. The suspect then hit the victim in the face and fled west. A few minutes later, another victim was walking on the north side of the Auraria Library on Lawrence Street when approached by a male matching the description of the robbery suspect. The suspect struck the victim in the face. The victim followed the suspect to the 7th Street Classroom where the suspect then outran the victim through the Elm parking lot. SUSPECT: The suspect is described as a white male, about 5’ 8” inches tall, wearing a black hoodie with white lettering, black pants, blue shoes, and a blue hat.
