2012 Timely Warning Archive

In compliance with the “Timely Notice” provisions of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the Auraria Higher Education Center located in Downtown Denver issued the following notices of crimes that occurred on the Auraria Campus.

February 25, 2012 – 1:00 a.m.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

REPORTED OFFENSE: Early Saturday morning, at approximately 1:00 a.m., an Auraria Campus student was followed and by two suspects on Light Rail to the Auraria West Station where the student disembarked and was assaulted near Campus Village. The suspects demanded the student's backpack and iPod and was assaulted when the student refused to give them up. The student was knocked to the ground, but was able to flee to Campus Village and immediately contacted Denver Police. The suspects fled on foot west bound on Walnut Street. No weapons were reported seen by the student. Auraria Police responded immediately when notified by Denver PD.

SUSPECT: The suspects are described as two white males, 19-20 years old, 5'9" and 5'11" in height.


April 13, 2012 – 12:20 p.m.
ROBBERY ON CAMPUS

REPORTED OFFENSE: At approximately 12:20 p.m., a man was robbed in the King Center/ Performing Arts Building on the Auraria Campus. While using the restroom on the 1st floor of the facility, the suspect approached him, pushed him in to a bathroom stall, brandished a knife, and stole his computer and cash. Auraria Police responded immediately and are actively investigating the incident.

SUSPECT: Minimal suspect information is available at this time; the suspect is reported to a black male, approximately 6’1”, with a strong body odor, possibly wearing black shoes and baggy jeans. Suspect fled in an unknown direction.


May 24, 2012 – 1:54 p.m.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT NEAR AURARIA CAMPUS (Colfax and Speer)

REPORTED OFFENSE: Denver Police are currently investigating a stabbing at Colfax and Speer, which occurred at approximately 1:54 p.m. today, Thursday, May 24, 2012. DPD is currently seeking two suspects who were last seen headed northbound along the Cherry Creek bike path.

SUSPECT: Suspect 1 is described as a Hispanic male, 18-20 years of age, 5’, 9” in height, heavy-set build, with black hair, wearing a black hat with gold trim, black and white t-shirt, carrying a black backpack and a skateboard. Suspect 2 is described as a white male in his 30’s, 6’ in height, wearing a brown shirt.


August 1, 2012 – 1:50 p.m.
ROBBERY NEAR AURARIA CAMPUS (10th Street & West Colfax Avenue)

REPORTED OFFENSE: On Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at approximately 1:50 p.m., a victim was robbed at the RTD bus stop at 10th Street and West Colfax Avenue. The victim is wheelchair bound and had currency in open view showing from a shirt pocket. The suspect grabbed the currency and fled southbound from the scene toward Burger King and the Zocalo Shopping Center area. The suspect did not show a weapon and the victim was not injured. Auraria Police and Denver Police and searched the area without locating the suspect.

SUSPECT: The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20's, approximately 5’2” tall wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.


November 30, 2012 – 4:00 p.m. 
STRONG ARM ROBBERY IN WEST CLASSROOM BUILDING

REPORTED OFFENSE: On Friday, November 30, 2012 between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m., a victim reported entering a restroom in the West Classroom Building and being assaulted and robbed by three suspects. During the assault, the suspects used racial slurs. After the robbery, the suspects fled with the victim’s possessions and cash.

SUSPECTS: Suspect 1 is described as male, mid-20’s, 6’-1”/170, short dark-curly hair, black shiny glasses, wearing a gray t-shirt and gray shorts. Suspect 2 is described as male, mid-20’s, 5’-10”/180, shaved head with a pony tail, a tear-drop tattoo under the right eye, wearing a plaid shirt with long black shorts. Suspect 3 is described as male, mid-20’s, 5’-10”/180, shaved head with tattoos on the head, leg and neck (“NSM” neck tattoo), wearing a plaid shirt with long black shorts, and a shiny buckle with an “N.”

Blue Light Emergency Telephones: Be aware of the blue light emergency telephones in the parking lots and throughout the campus. Use these telephones to report all suspicious persons or incidents to the Auraria Campus Police Department.

NightRider Service: The Parking & Transportation Services Department also offers a program called NightRider, an evening transportation service that provides safe rides for students, faculty, and staff from any campus building to any Auraria Campus parking lot.
