2014 Timely Warning Archive

In compliance with the “Timely Notice” provisions of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the Auraria Higher Education Center located in Downtown Denver issued the following notices of crimes that occurred on the Auraria Campus.

November 15, 2014 – Reported to have occurred evening of November 13th
FORCIBLE SEX OFFENSE AT 318 WALNUT STREET (CAMPUS VILLAGE)

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are assisting the Denver Police Department in investigating a possible forcible sex offense at 318 Walnut Street (Campus Village Apartments) that was reported anonymously.  The assault allegedly occurred on the night of November 13th, but was not reported until recently.

The suspect allegedly met the victim at a party and then later forced sexual contact without consent while the victim was intoxicated.

SUSPECT: No specific suspect information is available at this time, although ACPD and DPD continue to investigate the allegation.  The crime report was received through an anonymous crime tip, but was specific enough to merit a community warning.


Sunday, October 19, 2014 – Approximately 3:25 p.m.
STRONG-ARM ROBBERY AT SPEER AND LARIMER

REPORTED OFFENSE: Auraria Campus Police are assisting the Denver Police Department in investigating a crime at Speer and Larimer, on the east side of the creek. A victim reported that at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, a suspect snatched her purse with force. The suspect fled towards lower downtown. The suspect dropped the purse and wallet shortly after taking it but kept the cash that was inside.  There were no injuries.

SUSPECT: The suspect was a white male in his 20s, wearing a blue cap, blue shirt, blue jeans, and had brown hair.  ACPD and DPD took statements from the victim and a witness.


Tuesday, October 7, 2014 – Approximately 11:15 a.m.
FORCIBLE FONDLING AT 5TH & WALNUT STREETS

REPORTED OFFENSE: A victim reported that at approximately 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014, they were walking towards Campus Village from the Tivoli Student Union, and noticed the suspect following them to Campus Village.  They then left Campus Village, returning towards campus.  Once passing the 5th and Walnut intersection, while on the north (Walnut) side of the 5th Street Garage, the suspect grabbed the victim’s buttox and said “hey, what’s your name.”  The suspect then fled the scene in to the 5th Street Garage.

SUSPECT: The suspect is described as a black male, 19-20 years old, 5’7” to 5’8” tall, wearing a gray zip hoodie (with the hood up), dark blue jeans, and wearing a black backpack, sunglasses, and ear buds.  Auraria Campus Police are searching the area and reviewing video footage for any relevant leads.


September 28, 2014 – Approximately 1:00 a.m.
STRONG ARM ROBBERY AT 10TH & COLFAX LIGHT RAIL STATION

REPORTED OFFENSE: A victim reported that at approximately 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning, September 28, 2014, they were riding the RTD light rail train, which stopped at the station at 10th and Colfax.  As the train stopped in the station, the suspect took the victim’s backpack by force from their hands and ran from the train. No weapons were involved. The victim attempted to chase the suspect, but could not keep up with him.

SUSPECT: The suspect is described as a white male, 6’ tall, wearing a gray shirt, blue jeans, and wearing a ball cap.  Auraria Campus Police and RTD Police have been unable to locate the suspect.


August 30, 2014  – 2:00 a.m.
FORCIBLE FONDLING AT 10TH & COLFAX LIGHT RAIL STATION

REPORTED OFFENSE: A victim reported that at approximately 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning, August 30, 2014, they had a verbal exchange with a group of men at the Colfax RTD Light Rail Station at 10th and Colfax.  At the end of the exchange, one of the men pushed the victim up against the light rail train and forcibly grabbed the victim's breast. (While the offense occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m., it was only recently reported to Auraria Campus Police).

SUSPECT: Other than the information that this was a "group of males”, there is no suspect description.  The suspect left the area in an unknown direction.


June 30, 2014 – 4:30 - 5:00 a.m.
POSSIBLE FORCIBLE FONDLING OUTSIDE 5TH STREET GARAGE SITE

REPORTED OFFENSE: Monday morning, June 30, 2014, Auraria Campus Police received an anonymous report at approximately 7:15 a.m. of a possible forcible fondling that may have occurred earlier in the morning, between 4:30 and 5:00 am.  The person making the report stated that they were not the victim, but that the victim (not affiliated with the campus) had reported it to them.  The caller stated that the victim was approached by two men, shoved to the ground, and groped.

SUSPECT: The only suspect information provided was that there were two men; one African American and one Hispanic. Police continue to investigate this report in partnership with the Denver Police Department, but do not have specific information about the location, victim, or suspects.


April 27, 2014 – 9:30 p.m. 
FORCIBLE FONDLING OUTSIDE KING CENTER BUILDING

REPORTED OFFENSE: On Sunday, April 27, 2014, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a victim reported to campus police that they were forcibly fondled by a male on the west side of the King Center on the Auraria Campus. The victim reported that the suspect placed his genitals upon them, then fled southbound.

SUSPECT: The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male in his 20’s. He is further described as medium build, 5’-8”, wearing a black or blue hoody sweatshirt and grey sweatpants. He had a small goatee. Police continue to investigate this report and patrol the area.

NightRider Service: The Parking & Transportation Services Department offers a program called NightRider, an evening transportation service that provides safe rides for students, faculty, and staff from any campus building to any Auraria Campus parking lot.
