Auraria Campus Distribution Update - Monday, Oct. 30

AHEC Distribution has recently experienced significant staffing shortages which has resulted in service interruptions and delays in delivering mail and packages.   We understand this causes frustration and uncertainty, so we are providing an update on the issue, and what we are specifically doing to address it.

Due to an approximately 50% turnover in our Distribution staff, we have experienced a backlog of packages which need to be delivered to the campus.  We are continuing to work towards being fully staffed in the distribution space, and we anticipate being fully staffed in the next month.  To help provide additional context, the below outlines our current plans to address the staffing shortage:

  1. Other AHEC department staff members are assisting in Distribution
  2. Onboarding a student employee to assist with deliveries (estimated to start week of 11/6)
  3. Conducting Material Hander I interviews the week of 10/30, and aiming to hire two Material Handlers (week of 11/13-11/20)
  4. Material Handler II job posting closes 10/31 with the goal of hiring in Nov (week of 11/20-11/27)

Our AHEC Distribution team relies on each institution’s directories (https://www.ahec.edu/ahec-directory) listed in our AHEC website.  To ensure that we can provide timely deliveries, it is important to have all directories real time and reflective of accurate faculty/staff addresses.  In addition, if there are temporary moves for faculty/staff, please communicate this information to the Distribution team using the contact information below.

While we anticipate operations to resume to full operational capacity by mid-November, please know that during this staffing crunch, people can always come pick up their packages once we have received them.  The AHEC Distribution team recommends that campus members call ahead to ensure someone has located the package(s) and readied for pickup.  They should call: Central Receiving: 303-556-8401 or Cheryl: 303-556-3265.  They can also call Audrey: 303-556-3266, if they don’t reach someone at one of the other numbers.

We understand this staffing shortage has led to confusion, frustration, and a lack of clarity for when normal operations will resume.  We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this transition period and strive to get back to timely deliveries.
