Procedures
for Applying for the Campus Police Department
Career
Positions
Career positions within the department
include Police Officer Intern, Police Officer I, Police Officer II,
Police Officer III, Police Communications Intern, Technician, Supervisor,
and Security I and II. We are part of the State of Colorado
Personnel System.
Police
Officer Intern and Police Officer I
Police Officer
positions respond to a variety of civil matters as well as enforce
applicable local, state and federal laws.
Requirements:
Must be at
least 21 years of age. Applicant must possess and maintain a valid
Colorado Driver’s License and not have acquired more than six (6) points
in the last year and/or no more than ten (10) points in the last two
years. No alcohol or hit and run offenses can be on the Motor
Vehicle Record.
The Police
Officer Intern requires POST Certification.
The Police
Officer I requires POST Certification AND one year of Law Enforcement
experience.
All positions,
require POST Certification. If you are not POST Certified, you may
acquire information here.
Forms Required:
You must submit a Colorado State
Application, the Addendum to the application AND a Auraria Campus Police Personal History Form to the Auraria
Human Resources Office.
Testing:
Auraria’s Human
Resources Office will send out letters scheduling applicants for the physical
agility (see below) and written exercise (see below). These
examinations are
administered on the Auraria campus.
Once you have
passed both exams, your name will be placed on an eligible list.
The top three scoring applicants will then be referred to the Police
Department for consideration. The eligible list is good for 6
months. As new vacancies occur, Human Resources will refer names
from the established eligible list. You will be notified by mail of
your score and rank on the eligible list.
If you are referred to the
Auraria Police Department, they will begin a thorough investigation from
your Police Personal History Form submitted at the time you
applied. The selection process will include:

After a
conditional offer has been made, you will be required to submit to a
physical and psychological examination by a doctor or health care
facility which is selected or approved by the Auraria Campus Police
Department.

Police
Communications Intern and Technician
These positions
are responsible for responding to emergency and non-emergency phone
lines; utilizing and maintaining a two-way radio system to dispatch and
monitor patrol personnel on routine and emergency calls; and operating
and maintaining the Colorado and National Crime Information Center
computer to provide police personnel with pertinent information.
Requirements:
For both of
these positions, you must possess a High School diploma or GED.
The Intern level requires no
experience. The Technician level requires one year of dispatch
experience. Both positions require rotating shift work. They
also require a background investigation which includes a personal and
employment background check as well as a credit and criminal
check.

for either of these positions when they are announced. At that
time, you must submit a Colorado State
Application and the Campus Police Personal History Form.
Testing:
Applicants will
be notified regarding the date, time and location of the performance
exam (see below).
Once you have
passed the required exam, you will be placed on an eligible list.
You will be notified by mail of your score and rank on the eligible
list. The top three scoring applicants are referred to the Police

eligible list is good for six months.

Security I
Security
Officers are responsible for patrolling campus buildings, parking lots
and other campus areas to protect the institution, private and public
property from unauthorized usage, fire, theft or disturbance and to
enforce institutional rules and regulations.
Requirements:
Entry level
Security I positions require no education or experience.
Applicant must possess and
maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and not have acquired more
than six (6) points in the last year and/or more than ten (10) points in
the last two years. No alcohol or hit and run offenses can be on
the Motor Vehicle Record.
These positions
require rotating shift work. They also require a background
